Juanita Huttar

Juanita Eva Huttar (nee:Haag), 102,  passed away peacefully on August 28, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.  

Juanita was born on June 8, 1921 in Richmond Valley to George and Anna Haag.  She graduated from Tottenville High School, Class of 1939.  She then continued her education at the Guggenheim School of Dental Hygiene, Class of 1941.  Juanita became one of only two dental hygienists on Staten Island.

Juanita married Alfred Huttar on October 13, 1945 and moved to Pleasant Plains where, in the same house she raised her family and  lived until her death.  Juanita and Alfred were private pilots in the 1940's and owned three planes.

Juanita's door was always open to anyone who needed someone to talk to, a cup of coffee, or a place to stay.  Her children's friends knew they were always welcome.  She was an active member of the P.S. 3 PTA for many years.  She was also a longtime member of the First Bible Church and everyone called her "Grandma Huttar".

Juanita enjoyed spending time at the family summer home in Sundown, New York.  Once her children began to marry and have children of their own, Mom had dinner for all her children, grandchildren, and friends every Wednesday evening.  "Chow Down" eventually became a way of introducing boyfriends and girlfriends to our large family.

Juanita was predeceased by her  beloved husband, Alfred Huttar; son, Eric Huttar; brother, George Haag; sister, Eva Lovelee.

She is survived by her children, Juanita Stewart, Kim Klein, Kurt Huttar, Meg Schultz; grandchildren, Daniel, Brian, Brett Stewart, Joshua, Andrew Klein,  Alyssa Klein Shoemaker, Noelle Miguel, Alex Aleman, Mallory, Ian, Taylor Huttar; and great grandchildren, Christopher, Courtney, Liam Stewart, Jackson, Ava, Hayley, Peyton Klein, Alex Miguel.

As per Juanita's wishes, in lieu of flowers and mass cards, donations to First Bible Church, 6200 Amboy Road Staten Island, NY 10309 for the benefit of the Youth Ministry  OR  Staten Island University Foundation, 78 Meisner Avenue Staten Island, NY 10306 would be appreciated.
