Joyce Grier, was born in Scotland and came here when she was very young, the daughter of Rev.
James M. Grier and Mae Grier.
She was a loving person who loved and faithfully served here Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her
father Rev. James M, Grier was the Pastor for many years of South Baptist Church in Tottenville
where Joyce was very active as a Sunday School teacher, choir member and choir director. She
faithfully played the piano and organ for the Sunday services for the church and was President,
Treasurer and Secretary at various times for the South Baptist Women’s Missionary Society.
Ms. Grier worked for many years at Richmond County Federal Savings and Loan and eventually
retired as a Vice President of Staten Island Savings Bank.
She was a wonderful hostess, especially at church events and meetings and was famous for her
great sandwiches and the best ever shortbread. She had a gift of recalling stories from her life
that were inspirational and funny and could bring a warm and comforting smile to your face.
Joyce was fondly referred to as “Aunt Joyce” by many and wrote loving notes when you needed
comfort, were sick, had a birthday or were grieving the loss of a loved one. She was a gentle and
gracious lady who prayed for all and was a true and dedicated friend to everyone, you were truly
blessed if you knew “Aunt Joyce”.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Alzheimer's Association OR Samaritan's Purse would be appreciated in Joyce's name.
