Josephine Maklari, 96, of Tottenville, a homemaker who was active in several organizations, died Monday at home.

Born Josephine Elizabeth Chmura, she lived her entire life in Tottenville, moving only once to another house in the neighborhood at the age of 8. She graduated from Tottenville High School and was a parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville.

In her leisure time, Mrs. Maklari enjoyed crocheting and doing various crafts. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

Her many nieces and nephews all thought of 'down the lane' as their second home and holidays were always made more special because of Aunt Jo, said her daughter, Angela Valentino.

Mrs. Maklari's husband of 42 years, Michael, died in 1981.

In addition to her daughter, Angela Valentino, she is survived by another daughter, Theresa Guddahl; a son, Michael Maklari; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
