Joseph I. Maza, 74, passed away on September 24, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Joseph was born on Sunday, June 26, 1949 in New York, New York. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on February 23, 1968 and reached the rank of Sergeant as a radio mechanic. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force on February 22, 1972. Joseph owned and operated J & J Contractors and spent over thirty-five years as a Mason Contractor in Staten Island, New York. After his retirement in 2010, Joseph built and opened a strip mall, Charleston Square, on Arthur Kill Road (in 2011). He spent his days managing this property.
Joseph was an avid NASCAR fan. He loved going to car races all over. He went to the Daytona 500 every year and once went to the Indy 500 with his dad. Once he retired, he enjoyed golfing and loved gardening. He could always be found tending to his vegetable garden and loved planting flowers and arranging them in the yard. He put a lot of love and care into his garden making it beautiful.
Joseph was such a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
Joseph is pre deceased by his parents, Jose Maza and Carmela (nee: Burgio) Maza.
He is survived by his wife, Carla (nee: Curcurato) ; daughter, Melanie; sisters, Laraine Matyi and Rosalie Langer; numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, one great niece, two sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Joseph's name would be appreciated.
