STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Joseph J. Calderone, 91, of Prince's Bay, a loving family man who doted on his grandchildren, died Thursday in Clove Lakes Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, in Castleton Corners

Born in Brooklyn, he lived most of his life there, until moving to Prince's Bay in 1995.

Mr. Calderone was a longtime construction worker, and retired 40 years ago.

He enjoyed swimming, taking walks and reading.

Described as a gentleman who was loving and caring, he treasured time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 72 years, the former Mary Latesta; his son, Vincent; his daughter, Catherine Modugno; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Monday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, Pleasant Plains. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, also Pleasant Plains.
