STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Native Staten Islander John Zsadanyi, 91, of Hampstead, N.C., a retired dupervisor and a loving father and grandfather, died Friday in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, N.C.
Born in Tottenville, he graduated from Tottenville High School. He moved to Hampstead to live with his son in 2009.
Mr. Zsadanyi served as a tail gunner in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and was a member of the American Legion.
He worked for Nassau Smelting & Refining Co., Tottenville, for more than 25 years, retiring as a supervisor in the early 1980s.
He eas an avid woodworker and an amateur ham radio operator.
While on the Island, he was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Tottenville.
His wife of 56 years, the former Helen Ricker, died in 2001.
Surviving are his son, Scott J., and three grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
