STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - John Weingartner, 80, of Richmond Valley, a retired banker who served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, died Friday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.

Born in Queens, he was brought to Richmond Valley as a child. He also lived in several other neighborhoods before returning to Richmond Valley in 1989.

Mr. Weingartner was a banker for Morgan Guaranty Trust in Manhattan for 36 years. He retired in the early-1990s.

He graduated from Tottenville High School, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He was interested in photography and was a sports fan, having remained loyal to his favorite baseball team the Brooklyn Dodgers even after they moved to Los Angeles.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville.

His wife of 54 years, the former Mary Sindle, died in 2013.

Surviving are four sons, John, Kenneth, Robert and Matthew; a daughter, Anne Weingartner; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Tuesday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.

Services: Tuesday April 2,2013 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Help of Christian, R.C. Church. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation: Friends will be received on Monday April 1, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
