Longtime Staten Islander and devoted family man John Schmittau, 45, died Wednesday of pancreatic cancer in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.

Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Schmittau relocated with his family to Tottenville in the mid-1970s.
