John Rolls Sr., 65, of Tottenville, a retired supermarket manager who was a Vietnam veteran, died Tuesday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.
Born and raised in Paterson, N.J., Mr. Rolls lived in Toms River, N.J., before he relocated to Tottenville in 1995.
He had worked for more than 40 years as a manager with A&P and Waldbaum's, at various supermarkets in New Jersey and Staten Island. He had retired earlier this year.
A Vietnam War veteran, Mr. Rolls served as a mechanic in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed overseas during the war.
At home, he was a NASCAR fan and also enjoyed rooting for the New York Mets and Jets.
My dad was a kind and loving father who enjoyed spending time with family, said his son, John Jr.
In addition to John Jr., Mr. Rolls is survived by a son, Christopher, and a grandson.
Funeral arrangements, including cremation, are being handled by the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville.
