STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Lifelong Staten Islander John P. Lopez, 54, of Charleston, a loving brother and uncle, died Saturday at home.
Born in South Beach, he attended Tottenville High School. He settled in Charleston in 1964.
Mr. Lopez had been an auto mechanic for 40 years, doing freelance work for various Island cab companies and food delivery services. He was working at the time of his death.
Mr. Lopez was a Boy Scout in his youth.
He loved animals, especially his dog, Jerky Boy, a Labrador retriever mix. He also liked watching movies, the country in Pennsylvania, listening to music and spending time with his friends.
"He was generous and good-hearted and always there whenever you needed him," said his sister, Margaret Bauer.
Mr. Lopez was a former parishioner of St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Rossville.
Surviving, along with his sister, Margaret, are his brother, Michael, and his sister, Elizabeth Herbst.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Arrangements include cremation.
