Longtime Bay Terrace resident John Livorsi, 91, a retired city police officer and U.S. Army veteran who will be remembered as a steadfast family man, died Monday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.

He was born in Coalport, Pa., and was raised in Manhattan. He settled in Bay Terrace in 1970.

Mr. Livorsi was a New York City police officer for 25 years. During his career, he was assigned to the 1st Precinct in Manhattan. He retired in 1979.

He was mechanically inclined and enjoyed tinkering with electronics. He also enjoyed golf, bowling and reading.

Always willing to lend a hand, he was generous with his time and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His greatest pleasure was doting on his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and being with his family.

Mr. Livorsi served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret; his son, Joseph; his daughters, Kathy Monahan and Marie Esposito; his brothers, Peter and Salvatore; six grandchildren and two-great grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, both in Tottenville. Burial of ashes will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
