Native Staten Islander John L. (Fez) Fillbrunn, 56, of Rosebank, a retired shipyard and towing company worker who had a passion for motorcycles and car racing, died Sunday at home.
Born and raised in Rosebank, he attended New Dorp High School and later earned his G.E.D.
Mr. Fillbrunn also lived in Seattle for a year and in Florida for a couple of years, but spent almost all his life in Rosebank.
He worked for seven years at the former Todd Shipyard in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and for 10 years at Sesely Towing in Matawan, N.J. He retired on disability.
He loved his motorcycle and motorcycles in general, and was an enthusiastic Sprint car, NASCAR and Indy 500 racing fan.
Mr. Fillbrunn was happy-go-lucky and outgoing, and had lots of friends, family said. He also enjoyed spending time with his brothers and sisters and his many nieces and nephews.
Surviving are his parents, Marie and George Fillbrunn; his brothers, George, Tony and Michael, and his sisters, Dolores Sommo, Marie Vivona, Gloria Hannura and Pattyann Camal.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Arrangements include cremation.
