STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Former Staten Islander John S. Capodanno, 79, a retired textile industry manager, died Sunday in the Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Pembroke Pines, Fla.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Capodanno moved to Annadale in 1978. He also lived in Greensboro, N.C., before settling in Pembroke Pines in 1996.
He worked as a manager in the textile industry for various Manhattan firms for over 47 years, retiring in 1996.
He served as a rifleman in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Capodanno was a former parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Huguenot. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, softball and bocci ball, and was a fan of the New York Yankees and Jets.
"My dad was a loving and generous man who always put his children and grandchildren first," said his daughter, Danielle Duffy. "He loved nothing more then to make people laugh."
In addition to his daughter, Danielle, surviving are his wife, the former Suzanne Hulighan; a son; John; a daughter, Nicole Orrico, and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
