Joel Goldberg, 69, of Staten Island passed away on Wednesday, May 6 at Staten Island University Hospital from the coronavirus. He contracted the virus in the hospital as he recovered from an infection. Joel was born in Brooklyn and grew up in the Canarsie section of the borough. Joel moved to Staten Island 40 years ago, living in Huguenot before moving to Tottenville.
After earning his Associates Degree he worked for the New York City - Department of Purchase in Queens. He retired in 2013 as as a supervisor after 37 years. Prior to working for New York City, Joel worked for several years on Wall Street. Joel's favorite things to do were to spend time with his granddaughters, read and to play the lottery.
Joel is survived by Meryl, his loving wife of 44 years, his two sons, Jonathan (Cari) and Jordan, his siblings, Ivan Goldberg and Michelle Shmuel, and his two granddaughters, Elisa and Olivia.
