Joan Knesel

Native Staten Islander Joan Knesel, 83, of Annadale, a homemaker who will be remembered as sweet, down to earth and devoted to her family, died Thursday in Golden Gate Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Meiers Corners, where she resided since 2012.

Born Joan Backlund, she was a lifelong Annadale resident.

She graduated from Tottenville High School.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Bertrum, who died in 1986, and by her son John, in 2000.

She is survived by hers sons, Burt and Guy; her daughter, Debra Moore; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by the Bedell- Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Burial will be in Woodrow Cemetery, Woodrow.
