STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Jo Ann Torchio, 57, of Prince's Bay, a retired pediatric nurse, died yesterday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay, of pneumonia.
Born Jo Ann Efimoff in New Brighton, Mrs. Torchio lived in Dongan Hills and Great Kills before settling in Prince's Bay in 1980.
She was a Tottenville High School graduate and obtained her training as a registered nurse at Christ Hospital in Jersey City.
She worked in the pediatrics department at the former Richmond Memorial Hospital in Prince's Bay, now Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay, from 1974 to 1980. She retired in 1980 due to disability.
Mrs. Torchio was a former volunteer for Boy Scout Troop 43 and was active in parish activities at St. John's Episcopal Church in Rosebank.
"She was a very generous and thoughtful person," said her husband of 37 years, Louis (Jay) Torchio. "If you needed something, she was the type of person who would just give it to you."
In addition to her husband, Louis, she is survived by a stepdaughter, Adeline Quintero, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a service at 11 a.m. in St. John's Episcopal Church. Arrangements include cremation.
