Army veteran, lifelong Staten Islander, great-grandfather
Jesse Metz, 89, passed away on Nov. 16, 2018, at home of natural causes. He was a lifelong Staten Islander.
Jesse graduated from New Dorp High School, then went to Wagner College for business for three years. He worked at Citibank for 40 years, retiring in 1991.
Jesse was active in the Boy Scouts, VNA, Kiwanis, Red Cross, and American Cancer Society.
He enjoyed speed-skating, roller blading, skiing, golf, camping, swimming , canoeing, hiking, and traveled to 48 states and Europe.
He was a U.S. Army Pvt 1st class 1st Infantry from 1949 to 1950 in Germany.
He attended Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church.
Jesse was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Mary Louise Metz (Wall), in July 2017 .
He is survived by his children, Robert, Kathleen Cordes and MaryBeth Gazzillo; a sister, Arlene; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Help of Christian's R.C. Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. Memorial visitation will be held at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.
