STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Longtime Dongan Hills resident Jennie Grimaldi, 92, a retired seamstress who was devoted to her family, died Wednesday in the Staten Island University Hospital, �
in Ocean Breeze.
She was born and raised Jennie Coladonato in Brooklyn, and moved to Dongan Hills in 1969.
Mrs. Grimaldi was a seamstress for more than 20 years. A member of the former International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union, she retired about 30 years ago.
She enjoyed sewing, especially making dresses, as well as knitting, crochecting, gardening and socializing with her friends at the Berry Houses Senior Center.
Mrs. Grimaldi loved to cook and prepared delicious Italian feasts, complete with her famous meatballs, for holiday dinners with her family.
Her husband of 52 years, Anthony, died in 1998. Her son, Anthony, died in 1996.
Surviving are her son, Ralph; her daughter, Joyce Lapiana; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, Pleasant Plains. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, also Pleasant Plains.
