Janice M. Filimon, 87
Tottenville resident, great-grandmother
Janice M. Filimon (nee Petersen), 87, passed away at Golden Gate Nursing home on Sept. 23, 2018, after a long illness.
She was a born in Tottenville, Staten Island. Janice grew up in the Biddle House on Satterlee Street in Tottenville.
She was a graduate of Tottenville High School, then went onto college for two years. She was a homemaker.
Janice was a Girl Scout leader for 30 years (St. Paul's Girl Scouts). She was involved in The PTA at PS 1, the Elections Board and was active in the South Baptist Missionary Club. She also attended church at South Baptist Church in Tottenville.
Janice was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Nicholas J., who passed away in 2013, and her son, Peter A., who passed away in 1973.
She is survived by her children, Michael J. and David C. Filimon, Katherine A. Carbone, Elizabeth A. Dimino, Jane M. Kurabieski; her brother, David Charles Petersen; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral home service is at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home on Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at OceanView Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Tottenville Historical Society in Janice's name would be appreciated.
