On April 11th, 2021, James Winters, beloved husband and father passed away at the age of 83. Jim was born on February 23rd, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York to John and Mary Winters. Jim was a dedicated fireman in the FDNY for forty-one years and a favored lieutenant for twenty-five. Jim and his wife Joanne had many happy years on Staten Island raising their four children, Theresa, MaryJo, Donna, and Jimmy.
Jim was many things in his life. He was a father, a husband, a grandpa, a brother, and a son. He was a volleyball player, a gold medal ping pong champion, and loved to play softball with Engine 278. Jim was patient and kind, always knowing just what to say. Brothers in the FDNY knew Jim for his punctuality, steady hand, and lightning speed.
Jim was many things, but what he will never be is forgotten. He will be remembered in every inlet, in every aisle at a health food store, and during every Mets game. Listen for the sound of his voice reminding you to unplug the toaster before you leave the house, or the hum of his radio while he gets ready for bed.
Jim is remembered by his wife Joanne, his four children, his son-in-law Phil, daughter-in-law Brianne, late son-in-law Carl, his siblings Mary, John, Matthew, and his late sister Barbara, his six grandchildren Christina, Nicholas, Sabrina, Carl, Sierra, and Jody, his nieces and nephews, and countless other family and friends.
He will be truly missed.
