James A. Serra, 70, was called home to God on August 4, 2022. A loving and devoted husband to Diane (nee Blanchard) for 49 years. Beloved father to Christina D'Agostino and son-in-law Joseph D'Agostino. Loving and proud grandfather to Charlotte D'Agostino.
Grieving are his siblings; Ricardo (Mary) Serra, Sandra (Rudy) Lazides, Debra Serra, Catherine (Michael) Maj, Joseph (Dianne Lizzio) Walsh, and Teresa Walsh. Jim was predeceased by a sister Diana Serra-Lim. He is also survived by sister-in-law Doreen (Steve) Gliebe.
Jim joined the United States Army National Guard in 1970 and attended Officer Candidate School in 1976. He retired after 30 years of decorated Military service attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Jim was appointed to the New York City Police Academy in October 1973. He was promoted to the rank of Detective in 1982. He served 27 years, retiring in 1999 from the 9th Pct. Detective Squad. Following his retirement from the NYPD, he was appointed as an Investigator with the NYS Attorney General's Office, Medicaid Fraud Control Unit specializing in Computer Forensics. He retired after 15 years as a Senior Investigator.
Jim loved to spend time with his family, and travel, and was a passionate golfer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, August 10th, 2022 at 10 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church located at 5411 Amboy Rd., Staten Island, NY
Interment following funeral service at Resurrection Cemetery
