Ida Garin

Ida Garin (Nappi), 84, of Oakwood passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Staten Island University Hospital where she had been a patient since July 4, 2018.

Ida was born on November 26, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY.  She was the youngest of four daughters of the late Anna and Francis Nappi. She graduated from Bay Ridge High School and married Anthony Garin on October 3, 1954 at St. Finbar Church. They were married for over 60 years when Anthony passed away in 2015.

In her early years, Ida was employed at the Bell Telephone Company before relocating to Staten Island in 1963. After raising her children, she re-entered the workforce as a bookkeeper in the former Waldbaums Supermarket in Hylan Plaza. She enjoyed reading and preparing her Christmas cookies each year for her family.

Ida is survived by her five children, Patricia Matassa (Pat), Thomas Garin (Lois), James Garin (Lauren), Laurie Dionisio, and Linda Jennings and her three grandchildren, Stephanie Dionisio and Matthew and Maggie Garin.

Friends may visit Bedell-PIzzo Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 9:45 am.
