Herbert Bruce Gruberger
Herb was born on December 15, 1938, to Margaret and Samuel Gruberger in the Bronx. He attended Amanda Childs High School in the Bronx and City College. Herb served as a PFC in the Army, six months active duty, and eight years reserve.
Herb’s first career was as a district manager for National Shoes. His second career was as a driver for Inta-Boro, one of the largest car services in New York City. Herb was a car 194.
Herb’s passion in life was golf. He played for his high school golf team, and he continued playing golf throughout his life. Herb hit a hole-in-one on St. Paddy’s Day in 1992 on the 17th hole at South Shore Golf Course in Staten Island.
A special thanks to my brother Joe Stark, who invited Herb many years ago to join him and make up a gold foursome in Colts Neck, New Jersey.
I thank God and the blessed mother for giving Herb the strength and courage to battle lung cancer since January 2016. Herb was strong and resilient.
Our most sincere thanks to our parish, Our Lady Star of the Sea, for having healing services which Herb and I started attending in the summer of 2017.
Herb is survived by his wife, Diane Gruberger, his three children: Jeanne Muller, Carole Hyman, and Cynthia Garrison; his three step-children; Lorraine Ensana, Elizabeth Ensana, and Vincent Ensana; Twelve Grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren
We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts and conscious of our treasures, and we could not have asked for a more loving Husband, father, Step-Father, grandfather, and Great-Grandfather.
We have been blessed to know and love Herb!
