Native Staten Islander Henry Golop, 93, of Jackson, N.J., a retired welder, veteran and family patriarch whose family was the center of his life, died Sunday at home.

Born and raised in Sunnyside, he graduated from McKee High School.

Mr. Golop served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948, stationed in Korea. He attained the rank of staff sergeant.

He lived in Prince's Bay for 52 years until relocating to Raymond, Maine. He settled in Jackson in 2012.

A welder and sheet metal worker for 46 years, he worked at the former Bethlehem Steel shipyard in Mariners Harbor; at the U.S. Coast Guard station in St. George, repairing lighthouses, and as a pipefitter and welder at the former Procter & Gamble plant in Port Ivory. He retired in 1988.

Mr. Golop enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was generous and giving, and his family meant everything to him, they said. He will be deeply missed by his loved ones, they added.
