Former Staten Islander, Helen T. Tobin, 85, of Clifton, Va., a retired secretary �who was dedicated to her family, died Monday at her home in Clifton, Va.
She was born Helen Baker in Newark and grew up in Irvington, N.J. After she and Michael Tobin wed in 1946, the couple settled in Tottenville. They moved to Prince's Bay in 1967.
The Tobins relocated to Forked River, N.J., in 1981, to Original Leisure Village in 1990, and to Clifton in 2004.
Mrs. Tobin worked as an executive secretary for Nassau Recycling Corp. in Tottenville. She also worked as a secretary in the administration office and library of Original Leisure Village.
She volunteered for the Deborah Hospital in Brownsville, N.J.
While on the Island, she was a parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians, R.C. Church, Tottenville, where she sang in the choir for many years, and later Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Huguenot. In New Jersey, she attended St. Pius X R.C. Church, Forked River.
Michael, her husband of 43 years, died in 1989.
Surviving are her sons, Michael, Thomas and Patrick; her daughter, Karen McDonald; a brother, Hobart; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
