Harold (Hap) Moody, Jr., 85, of Rossville, a retired inspector who was a dedicated hospital volunteer, died Tuesday in the Clove Lake Rehabilitation Center and Home.
The lifelong Staten Islander was descended from some of the original settlers of Sandy Ground in Rossville. Mr. Moody had lived in Keyport, N.J., for more than 30 years before returning to Sandy Ground in 2014.
An alumnus of Tottenville High School, Mr. Moody worked as a quality control inspector for Celotex Corp., Perth Amboy, N.J., for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He also worked part-time as a custodian for the Board of Education in Old Bridge, N.J., retiring in 1994.
Mr. Moody was an enthusiastic volunteer at Bayshore Hospital in Holmdel, N.J., and received a medal for contributing more than 100 hours of service.
He bowled regularly and enjoyed reading, painting and frequent travel. He also collected coins and drinking glasses.
Mr. Moody was a member of the Saturday Night Men's Club.
He attended the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Keyport.
He is survived by his son, Keith; a daughter, Karen Moody; a brother, Jerome; a sister, Olivia Moody; one granddaughter and two great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Saturday in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Burial will be in Rossville AME Zion Church Cemetery, Rossville.
