Gustave Martine of Prince's Bay, Staten Island, N.Y., passed away on Nov. 14, 2016, at the age of 78 after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Martine was born in Brooklyn to Nick and Kate Martine. He is a US Army veteran and was a member of the NYPD for 20 years, retiring as a detective in Manhattan South. He then worked as a supervising investigator for the New York State Education Department Offfice of Professional Discipline until 2008.
He was an active member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Staten Island Lodge 841, where he served as past district deputy, secretary and lodge sponsor. He was also a member of the American Legion Watkins Kellett Post.
He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, thoroughbred racing and watching sports. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Eileen (Hopkins) Martine; his two children, Father Michael and Eileen Martine-Damato, son-in-law John Damato, and a brother, Ernest of Punta Gorda, Fla.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church. Burial will take place in Resurrection Cemetery.
Friends may visit on Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m. at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Joseph Saint Thomas Parish.

Visitation: Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home Thursday, November 17, 2016 & Friday, November 18, 2016 from 2-4 & 7-10PM

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Joseph/St. Thomas RC Church would be appreciated.
