Goody G. Halvorsen, a lifelong resident of Tottenville, Staten Island, N.Y., son of the late Irving and Thelma Halvorsen, passed on March 4, 2016, at the age of 78.
He is survived by his adoring wife, Donna Britten; four loving children, Goodwin and wife Kerry Halvorsen, Tina Fulginity and Jennie and Tracy Halvorsen; three stepchildren, Patrick and wife Jody Britten, Timmy Britten, and Dawn and John Esposito; and 11 grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. Goody will always be remembered for his many accomplishments. He was a scout master and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 46. He was a Navy man who served on the U.S.S. Champlain, a stock car driver at Weissglass Stadium, and a manager for South Shore Little League, where he taught and watched many boys and girls grow and learn baseball. Goody worked for Nassau Smelting, was a supervisor for N.Y.C. Sanitation, and eventually retired as a bus driver from Pioneer Bus Company.
Goody had a deep love for the water and had a boat named GoodWind, where he would always find relaxation.
He won numerous awards throughout his life, including a field dedication to him at South Shore Little League. In 1991 the Staten Island Advance honored him with the Sportsman of the Year award. Goody touched many people in his life, but the memories he leaves us with will not soon be forgotten.
