STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Gloria Greifenstein, 80, of Concord, died Friday in Sunrise Assisted Living, Concord, where she had been a resident since 2006.

Born Gloria Argenzio in Brooklyn, she moved to Eltingville in 1961 and to Manchester, N.J., in 1988.

Mrs. Greifenstein worked as a switchboard operator for the New York Bell Company for 10 years, leaving the position to raise her children while husband, Robert Sr., worked as a detective for the NYPD. She later worked at Delco Drugs in Eltingville, and as an operator for the former Richmond Memorial Hospital for 12 years, until retirement in 1988.

Mrs. Greifenstein was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Elks Club in Greenridge, and enjoyed traveling, trips to Atlantic City, and attending events at the Elks Club.

In the late 1950s, Mrs. Greifenstein worked for a brief time as an original A&P plaid stamp model. In 2009, she served as an extra in a movie with Brian Dennehy and Helen Hunt.

Her husband of 54 years, Robert Sr., died in 2002.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Jr. and Thomas; a daughter, Barbara (Cookie) Eysel; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Burial will follow in Brig. General William C. Doyle Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, N.J.
