Native Staten Islander George W. MacDonald, 70, of Little Egg Harbor, N.J., a retired FDNY fire dispatcher and devoted family man, died Thursday in Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin, N.J.
Born and raised in New Dorp Beach, he graduated from New Dorp High School.
Mr. MacDonald relocated to Manalapan, N.J., in 2002, and settled in Little Egg Harbor in 2013.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and saw duty in Vietnam. A member of the Military Police, he attained the rank of SP4.
Mr. McDonald was a Boy Scout troop leader.
A member of the Great Kills, New Dorp and Huguenot lodges, he enjoyed attending Masonic meetings and events. He also belonged to the Shriners and was a member of the Grand Lodge.
Mr. McDonald loved fishing and spending time with his family. He was fond of the companionship of his pet Yorkshire terrier, Hercules.
Surviving are his sons, Sean and Kevin; his brother, James; his sister, Kathleen Mondelli, and a granddaughter.
A Masonic service will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Arrangements include cremation.
