George Thomas Hartigan Sr.

George Thomas Hartigan, Sr. was born on April 11, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Maurice E. Hartigan II and Margaret A. Hartigan (Deceased). He was a valued member of the Staten Island and New York City Communities. George enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and served in the Korean War. Upon discharge from the Marines, George had met and married his pre-deceased wife Loretta P. Hartigan (nee Fereno). George then became a New York City Police officer. He moved his growing family to Tottenville Staten Island and eventually settled in Prince's Bay section of Staten Island, while serving throughout the various Boroughs for the next twenty years until his retirement as a Sergeant.
After retirement, George ran for the office of State Assemblyman for the 60th Assembly district on Staten Island in 1978 and 1980 as the nominee for the Democrat party. He also ran for Borough President of Staten Island under the independent party ticket. George had served as the director for the Rehabilitation Unit in Staten Island Hospital South for 10 years until he retired.
George is survived by his brother Maurice E. Hartigan, his children George T. Hartigan, Jr., Daniel P. Hartigan, Kenneth M. Hartigan, John F. Hartigan, Brian J. Hartigan, and Margaret A. Hartigan (Peggy). George is also survived by his sister in law Joann R. Albert (nee Fereno) and her husband Louis R. Albert. George has 17 grandchildren and three great grand children
A memorial service will be held in his memory at Bedell Funeral home on Amboy road in Tottenville, Staten Island on Saturday June 17 2017 from 9:00 am to 11:00 immediately followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery on Sharrots Rd. where he will remain with his late wife.
