STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Brooklyn native Frederick R. Maratta, 62, a retired state Parks Department worker and veteran of the Vietnam War, died yesterday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.

Born in Brooklyn, he moved to Huguenot in 1968 and settled in Tottenville about five years ago.

A graduate of New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a member of a river boat patrol. He later worked for the state Parks Department in maintenance.

He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, showing his nieces and nephews how to shoot BB guns, and spending time with his pet monkey, named Junior.

Surviving are his mother, Ann Maratta; two brothers, Michael and Dominick, and his sister, Lillian Maratta.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville. Arrangements include cremation.
