Frank T. Carretta – Jan. 17, 1947 – Oct. 22, 2019
Frank T. Carretta, 72, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at Staten Island University Hospital South.He was born and raised in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn and upon his marriage to his beloved wife, Alvina, they moved to flatbush where they raised their two children, Diana and Peter. In 1983 Frank settled in Eltingville.Frank was a longshoreman for approximately 15 years with Todd Shipyard in Redhook, Brooklyn and then became a self-employed contractor for his company, Crimson Industries for over 25 years. He was an avid football fan, which led him to devote most of his life to the love of the game. He was a coach for approximately 50 years, first in Brooklyn for the Brooklyn Hurricanes and then for the Brooklyn Mariners, a semi pro football team. He also coached for the FDNY Football Team as well as Farrell High School, St. Peter's High School and Moore Catholic High School.Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who treasured time spent with his family. He especially enjoyed doting on his grandchildren and attending their dance recitals and sporting events.He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Alvina. Loving father to Diana Marolla and Peter Carretta. Dear father-in-law to Darryl Marolla and Brenda Carretta. Devoted grandfather to Daria, Sophia, Jason, Jaclyn and Jordan.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2019, at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, 7447 Amboy Road, Staten Island, New York.A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at St. Thomas The Apostle Church located at 6135 Amboy Rd Staten Island, New York 10309. Private cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
