Florence Aversano Amendola Milo, 99, of Pleasant Plains, a retired seamstress and frequent friendship club visitor, died Monday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay, following a brief illness.
Born one of 11 children in Brooklyn, the former Florence Aversano moved to Queens before settling in Port Richmond in 1985. She moved to Pleasant Plains in 1993.
Mrs. Milo worked as a seamstress for more than 40 years, first in Manhattan's Garment District, then at a Brooklyn-based factory. She retired in 1980.
Mrs. Milo could often be found at the Mount Loretto Friendship Club, which she visited three times a week.
In addition to spending time with her family, Mrs. Milo enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, and crocheting.
She attended mass at St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, Pleasant Plains.
Her husband of 25 years, Bartholomew Amendola, died in 1963, and her second husband, of eight years, Carmine Milo, died in 1988. Her son Eugene Amendola died in 2002.
Surviving are her son, Bobby Amendola; her daughter, Barbara Sage; three sisters, Sadie Mutszewski, Rose Whelan and Sue Krempasky; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
