STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Lifelong Staten Islander Florence DeMarco, 76, of Tottenville, a retired CB 2 administrative secretary and liaison, died yesterday at home, after a 13-year battle with cancer.
Born Florence Petrone in West Brighton, she moved to Bulls Head when she was 16 and lived in that community until two years ago, when she settled in Tottenville.
A graduate of Curtis High School, Mrs. DeMarco worked as an administrative secretary and community liaison for Community Board 2 for about 15 years, retiring in the 1990s.
"She enjoyed walks with her youngest granddaughter, and was known for her hip attire and helping hand," said her daughter, Diane Cullen, speaking on behalf of her family.
Mrs. DeMarco loved to draw and paint, and enjoyed shopping, going to the beach and traveling to the Jersey Shore.
She was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Travis, where she sang in the church choir.
Her husband of 52 years, Joseph, died in 2010.
Along with her daughter, Diane, surviving are her daughter, Susan DeMarco, and three granddaughters.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
