Native Staten Islander Ethel Georgiana Donnelly, 91, of Santee, S.C., a former homemaker and nurse's aide, died Oct. 9 in the Magnolias of Santee Assisted Living Center.
Born in Ethel Bender in West Brighton, she moved to Tottenville in the late 1940s before settling in Santee in 2009.
A homemaker, Mrs. Donnelly worked as a nurse's aide for the former St. Vincent's Medical Center, West Brighton. She worked also as a private nanny on the Island.
Mrs. Donnelly graduated from a high school on Staten Island.
She was a member of the auxiliary of the Beauvais-Hudson American Legion Post and the auxiliary of the South Shore Little League, of which her husband was a founding member. Mrs. Donnelly enjoyed gardening, playing the piano and sewing especially quilts for family and friends.
She was a loving mother who was devoted to her family. She was adored by everyone she touched in her life and she loved spending time with her large family, relatives and friends, said her son, Harold Donnelly.
Her husband of 50 years, Charles, died in 1990. Her daughter, Patricia Donnelly, died in 2010.
Along with her son, Harold, also surviving are another son, Charles Jr.; four daughters, Ethel Lyn Keiser, Debra Ciccone, Dale Fasano and Gale Hartie; a brother, George Bender; a sister, Doris Demenchuk; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
