Esther Carapella, 83, of Princes Bay, a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed caring for others, died Thursday in the Eger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Egbertville.
Born Esther Iadisernia in Brooklyln, she lived most of her life there. She also lived with family in Tottenville and Prince's Bay for a short time, before moving to the nursing home eight years ago.
A homemaker, Mrs. Carapella enjoyed cooking and taking care of others. Holidays were fantastic,' said her son, George. She was an excellent wife and she took care of all of us. She lived for her family.'
Mrs. Carapella was so kind and generous to others, she was nicknamed Saint Esther,' by family and friends, her son said.
Her husband of 50 years, Jack Carapella, died in 2000. In addition to her son, George, she is survived by her son, James; her daughters, Diane Di Vito, Anne-Marie Muro and Linda Carapella, and 10 grandchildren.
A funeral will be Monday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a service at 9:30 am. in Our Lady of Guadalupe R.C. Church, Brooklyn. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Oakwood.
