STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Eric Ryan Alverson, 32, of Prince's Bay, a lifelong Staten Islander whose son was the joy of his life, died Saturday at home.
Born in Richmond Valley, he later lived in Tottenville before settling in Prince's Bay about three years ago.
A graduate of Tottenville High School, Mr. Alverson worked as a waiter at the Marina Cafe, Great Kills, and as a self-employed landscaper.
He was known for always having a smile on his face, and loved family gatherings that allowed him to spend time with his cousins. He adored spending time with his young son, Aidan Alverson.
Mr. Alverson also enjoyed playing video games and solving puzzles, especially the Rubix's Cube. He liked eating and cooking, and his family said he was something of a food critic.
In addition to his son, Aidan, surviving are his father, Joseph Alverson; his mother, Elizabeth Alverson; a brother, Shawn Alverson; his grandmother, Alice White, and his grandfather, Joseph Alverson Sr.
The funeral will be Friday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
