Eleanora (Carmelina) Renda, 92, of Prince's Bay, a retired seamstress whose family was most important to her, died Friday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
Born Eleanora Giuffre in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she moved with family to Catania, Sicily, Italy, as a girl and grew up and married there. She immigrated to the United States when she was in her 20s, moving to Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. She moved to Dongan Hills in 1997 and settled in Prince's Bay five years ago.
Mrs. Renda worked as a seamstress for 40 years at the former Claren Molisani Coats and Suits in the Bush Terminal area of Brooklyn. She retired when she was 65 years old.
She cherished her family and loved spending time with them. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and playing board and card games.
While in Brooklyn, she was a parishioner of Regina Pacis R.C. Church.
Vincent, her husband of 30 years, died in 1975. She also was preceded in death by her son, Anthony, in 2013.
Surviving are her son, Sebastian (Sam); her daughter, Rita Latella, and 11 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, both in Tottenville. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
