Eleanor Gagliardi, 90, of Rossville, a retired cosmetologist and loving homemaker whose family was everything to her, died Friday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
Born and raised Eleanor Fasano in downtown Brooklyn, she went to high school in her native borough. She later lived in Canarsie, and settled in Rossville in 1989.
She was working in the payroll department of the former New York Herald Tribune, and a pressman there, Eugene Gagliardi, always had some difficulty with his paycheck until she finally agreed to go out on a date with him. The couple wed a year later and were inseparable all their married life, enjoying dancing, listening to music, and watching musicals and classic movies together.
Mrs. Gagliardi left the work force to raise her family but returned when her children were older, and was a cosmetologist for Lancome at Macy's in Kings Plaza, Brooklyn, the Staten Island Mall, New Springville, and the Menlo Park Mall. She retired in 1984.
She loved being with her family more than anything, and her twin grandsons were her pride and joy. She was happily anticipating the birth of her first great-grandson, due any day, family said.
Mrs. Gagliardi also enjoyed painting and cooking Italian dinners for her family.
Surviving, along with Eugene Sr., her husband of 67 years, are her son, Eugene Jr.; her daughter, Lorraine Pszczola, and two grandsons.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, both Tottenville. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
