Former Staten Islander Edwin B. Murphy, 94, of Freehold, N.J., a retired salesman who was devoted to family, died Sunday in Centra
State Medical Center, Freehold.
Born in Rossville, he moved to Freehold in 2004.
He graduated from St. Peter's Boys H.S., New Brighton, in 1936.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving aboard the USS Independence as a radarman second class. After his service, Mr. Murphy worked as a salesman for several companies, including Greif Brothers from 1961 to 1972, and Sanford Chemicals from 1974 until his retirement in 1987.
He was a parishioner of St. Joseph and St. Thomas R.C. Parish, Pleasant Plains.
He was an avid Yankees fan and had enjoyed visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., his family said. Mr. Murphy also enjoyed Big Band music and spending time with his family. He was very much a family man and loved being with his nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, said his niece, Lori Johnson.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Bedell Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph R.C. Church, Rossville. Burial will follow in Resurrection
