Edward Speranza, 85, of Tottenville, a retired school bus driver who loved bowling, died Friday in Silver Lake Specialized Care Center, Brighton Heights, where he had been a patient for three weeks.

Born in Manhattan, he grew up in Brooklyn. He later lived in Monroe Township, N.J., before moving to Tottenville two years ago.

Mr. Speranza served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He worked as a driver for Varsity School Bus Co. in Brooklyn and retired about 1995.

Mr. Speranza was an avid bowler. He also was a manager for the Italian-American Softball Team in Brooklyn. He enjoyed visits to Atlantic City and going to the racetrack.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Esther Lagana; his son, Edward, and two grandchildren.

The funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.

Services: A 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C, Church. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery

Visitation: Friends will be received on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM
