Edward Cox

November 3, 1962 — February 11, 2020

Edward T. Cox, 57
Nov. 3, 1962 - Feb. 11, 2020
Edward T. Cox, 57, passed away peacefully on Feb. 11, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Edward was born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn to Joyce (Gottlieb) and Robert Cox. He was known to many as "Fast Eddy," due to his skill and love of muscle and antique cars on which he spent hours working alongside his Dad, his best friend.
His Dad, Robert was a former Golden Glove Boxer and Edward must have inherited that fighting spirit, for he fought from the day of his accident to the very end of his life. He did so with courage and without saying, "Why me?" Being paralyzed did not define him. He lived his life the way he wanted and without limits. Weeks after one of his many surgeries, he could be seen at a car show or race track or even at Toys R Us buying a gift for his Godson. He was a very proud and loving Godfather. Only during this recent surgery and hospitalization was it revealed that on 9-11, after hearing that many commuters were stranded, that Eddy made multiple trips to the ferry to take them home.
Edward was predeceased by his father, Robert.
He was loved by so many. He is survived by his mother, Joyce, his aunts and uncles: Godparents Lynn and Sal Schettina, Sharon and Pat Guadagno, Donna and Joe Schettina, Aunt Carmen, his cousins, Timmy, Billy Kenny and Cheryl, and "Bobby's Girls," cousins, Carolyn, Helen, Kay and Pat, cousins: John (BettyLou), Sharon, Brian (Sandy), and Katie Schettina, Jessica and Aaron Virgin, Mathew Guadagno, and Kristiana (Maurice) Gottlieb, and his godson, Christian Schettina and many friends: Margaret, Kenny, Phil, Lamb, Eddie, James and Jen.
The family would like to thank University Hospice and SIUH hospital staff.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at St. Joseph's R.C. Church (Rossville) at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Edward's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital  would be appreciated.
