Dr. Edward Pizzo

Dr. Edward W. Pizzo, 84, of Emerson Hill, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Edward, a lifelong Staten Island Resident, was born in New Brighton to the late Giuseppe and Elizabeth Pizzo, and in 1966 he and his wife, Barbara built their home on Emerson Hill where they raised their 6 children.  He met the love of his life, Barbara Scattaglia in 1952 and they were married 7 years later.  Edward and Barbara would have celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage in August of this year.  He graduated from Curtis H.S., then obtained his Bachelor Degree from NYU and in 1960 received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from NYU Dental School.  He was President of Alpha Phi Delta fraternity during undergraduate school and in dental school he belonged to Xi Psi Phi dental fraternity. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force at Pease Air Force Base in Dover, NH, achieving the rank of Captain.  Edward's career as a dentist spanned 51 years, opening his practice in 1962 in Concord.  He was known by his patients as the "singing dentist" and always ended by saying "good show." He was Past President of Richmond County Dental Society , past Board member of The Children's Aid Society at Goodhue, where he spent most of his childhood. He volunteerd his services as a dentist to the children at  MIV Mount Loretto. He was also a past board member of the S.I. Zoo under the direction of his lifelong friend, Vincent N. Gattullo and was also the Zoo Animal Dentist.  Throughout his life, he volunteered his services and time to many organizations where he received numerous awards.  He enjoyed travelling with his wife and groups of friends travelling throughout the world.  After his retirement he found the joy of cooking. Above all, his family and his faith were most important to him.  He lived an accomplished and fulfilling life, always surrounded by the love of family and friends.  So now we say, as you would say Dad, a life well lived, "Good Show".  He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Barbara.  Loving father of Barbara Ann Longo (Joseph), Michael (the late Kathy, and fiancé Patrice), Paul (Karen), Beth, David (Donna) and Edward.  Dear brother of Fred and the late Joseph, Lucy Barracato, Rocco, Mamie Natale, George and Vincent "Bubby".  Dearest brother-in-law of Ann and Frances Pizzo and Richard Scattaglia.  Devoted grandfather to his 19 grandchildren.  Funeral from Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home on Thursday 10:00 a.m.  Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann's RC Church 11:00 a.m.  Cremation to follow at Rosehill Crematory.  Friends may visit Tuesday 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  In lieu of flowers donations in Edward's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
