Dorothy Mary Maguire, 95, of Richmond Valley, a retired payroll director who was hardworking and energetic, died Friday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.
Born in Dorothy Mary Flannery in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, she moved with family to Rossville as a girl and graduated from Tottenville High School.
She had lived in Richmond Valley for 75 years.
Mrs. Maguire headed the payroll department at the Mission of the Immaculate Virgin, Mount Loretto, Pleasant Plains, for many years. She retired in 1990.
She loved her Wheaten terrier, Molly, who was a big part of her life.
Mrs. Maguire also enjoyed reading and was interested in politics.
She was always active and feisty, very energetic, and kept an immaculate house in addition to working and raising me alone after my father died, said her daughter, Colleen Maguire.
Mrs. Maguire's husband of 24 years, William, died in 1966.
She was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph-St. Thomas R.C. Parish, Pleasant Plains.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Rossville. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
