Native Staten Islander Dorothy F. Cespino, 87, of Huguenot, a homemaker who was a devoted mother and grandmother, died Tuesday in her home.
Born Dorothy F. Hall in Midland Beach, she also lived in South Beach before moving to Dongan Hills in 1962. She settled in Huguenot in 2002.
A homemaker, Mrs. Cespino worked for a short time doing clerical work before leaving to raise a family.
She graduated from St. Dorothy's Academy in Dongan Hills.
Mrs. Cespino was a longtime parishioner of St. Ann's R.C. Church, Dongan Hills.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and creating handmade items for family members and friends.
Her husband, George, died in 1989. Her daughter, Bernadette Cespino, died in 1961.
Surviving are four daughters, Georgette Yelverton, Hopeann Turowski, Monica Cespino-Dowd and Brenda Barone, and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Huguenot. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Grasmere.
Services:
A 10:00 am mass of Christian burial on Friday September 6, 2013 at Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation:
Friends may visit Wednesday September 4,2013 from 7 to 9 pm and Thursday September 5,2013 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9pm
