STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Longtime Richmond Valley resident Donathy A. Grzeskowiak, 92, a homemaker and devout Catholic, died Friday in the Richmond University Medical Center, in West Brighton.
Born Donathy A. Nowicki in Bayonne, she moved to Tottenville in 1935 and to Richmond Valley in 1948. She had been a resident of the Richmond Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Stapleton, formerly St. Elizabeth Ann's Health Care and Rehabilition Center, since 2009.
Mrs. Grzeskowiak was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville, where she belonged to the Rosary and Altar Society. She was a member and former president of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, a member of the Third Order of Mary, and was instrumental in the inception of the Easter Food Blessing at her parish.
She enjoyed praying the rosary daily, and watching EWTN Global Catholic Television Network.
Her husband of 61 years, John, died in 2005.
Surviving are her sons, John, Anthony, Stephen and Thomas; her daughter, Joanna Grzeskowiak; a brother, Henry; two sisters, Valerie Bertan and Theresa Brown; six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
