STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Former Tottenville resident Donald Kolbenson, 54, of Brooklyn, a micrographic technician, died Tuesday at home.
Born and raised in Tottenville, Mr. Kolbenson was a graduate of Tottenville High School and moved to Brooklyn at the age of 18.
Mr. Kolbenson worked as a micrographic technician for New York City for 24 years.
His family described him as a man who "knew how to stop and smell the roses," said his sister, Carol Meller. He also enjoyed art and cooking.
A caring uncle, he would often take his nieces and nephews for walks on the beach where they would skip rocks on the water.
"He was a great uncle and always knew how to bring a smile to someone's face," said his niece, Carolyn Meller.
Mr. Kolbenson was a member of the Faith Assembly of God, Tottenville.
In addition to his sister, Carol, surviving are his brothers, Charles, David, Paul and Roy, and his mother, Shirley.
The funeral service is tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Arrangements include cremation.
