Domenico Sansalone, 72, of Tottenville, a custom tailor and a business owner who was devoted to his family, died Sunday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.

A native of Mammola, Reggio Calabria, Italy, he immigrated to the United States in 1973, moving to Brooklyn. He settled in Tottenville in 2012.

Mr. Sansalone had been a custom tailor for over 50 years, and was working at the time of his death. He had owned and operated Shaw-Ross Clothiers in Manhattan for 40 years, and many prominent New Yorkers were among his clientele, family said.

He was a member of the Gioiosa Marina Social Club in Brooklyn.

Mr. Sansalone was a soccer fan and belonged to the Juventus Club in Brooklyn. He also enjoyed traveling to Florida and Italy.

He doted on his grandchildren and especially loved spending time with them.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, the former Angela Fursaro; his sons, Vincenzo and Giovanni; his mother, Elisabetta Sansalone, and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, with a mass at Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, both in Tottenville. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
