STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Longtime Port Richmond resident Dolores Bear Maille, 85, the matriarch of three generations of family, died Tuesday in Golden Gate Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Meiers Corners, where she had resided for several years.
Born Dolores Bear in Chicago, she was a descendant and enrolled member of the Assiniboine Tribe at Fort Belknap, Mont.
Mrs. Maille moved to Brooklyn when she was in her 20s. She also lived briefly in Westerleigh before settling in Port Richmond in the 1960s.
She worked as a telephone operator, first for AT&T and then for the Hilton and Biltmore hotels in Manhattan.
She loved to sew and to travel throughout the United States.
Her son, Raymond, died in 2005, and her daughter, Hazel Maille, died in 1973.
Surviving are her daughters, Sunniva Maille and Phyllis Kimbrig; her brother, Andrew O'Rourke; her sister, Hazel Shea; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp. Arrangements were handled by the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville.
